[When we last left Enzo, he was checking out the poor beat up ship! Poor ship. ;_; The sun is starting to set with a pretty sparkling tint over the western ocean. Looks like it's back home. Anyhow...] [Start!] [The harbor worker doesn't beat him up. He probably didn't even notice.] * Enzo ventures a greeting. "Hi!" [The harbor worker still doesn't notice! He's just busy working on a boat. No time for little kids.] * Enzo shrugs and wanders closer to the beat-up ship. [The ship looks pretty bad. The sail is ripped (from a storm or from chain shot; it's hard to tell) and there's scrapes on the hull. In the middle of the ship on the side closest to the dock, a good part of the hull is shattered and the bow is also snapped off.] * Enzo whistles to himself. "Whoa." * Enzo goes for a closer look! [Closer inspection doesn't reveal any particular insights as to how it happened. Looks pretty nasty though.] [There are some people working on the ship, but they look awfully busy.] * Enzo wanders closer and closer and closer. [There's a sudden yell as Enzo approaches. "Hey kid! Be careful around here! Don't ya know it's dangerous?"] * Enzo looks up at the yell. "Huh?" [Enzo notices one of the workers looking down at him. He just stares. "What do ya think would happen if one of these pieces just snapped and came crashing down eh? Geez. Kids these days." * Enzo shrugs. "What happened to her? She looks pretty beat-up." [The worker sighs, figuring he's not going to get rid of this kid before he answers a few questions and looks down over the railing down at Enzo. "Someone fouled up, that's what. I think I heard one of the mates saying a storm blew them off course. Weren't many survivors. If ya ask me though, no navigator worth their salt would sail that close to the Veil of Mists anyhow."] * Enzo wrinkles his nose. "The Veil? Why'd they wanna go there?" [The guy hmms a bit. "Couldn't say. There's some pirates who've been wholed up there, or so the rumors go. They might have been hunting them. Granted the Veil itself ain't that bad for a good navigator, but that--" He points to the hole in the hull, "don't look like anything natural to me."] * Enzo eyes the hole, keeping his other eye out for falling debris. "I always heard the Veil was practically impossible to get through." [The guy waves his hands slightly. "Well, it takes...err...a certain type of navigator to get to. The hardest thing ain't the place itself; it's the fact that the mist is so thick at times that ya can't see beyond your nose."] What about all the other stuff I heard is in there? [The guy sighs, obviously irritated. "Yeah, there is that. Look, kid. I've heard a lot of mixed stories. Don't bug your elders, okay?"] * Enzo shrugs. "Just curious. Anything I can do to help?" ["You can stay out of the way."] * Enzo shrugs again. "Okay, thanks." * Enzo backs up a few steps, then continues scrutinizing the ship from a slightly further point, circling it. [The hole seems to catch a little of the other side of the hull as well, though this one doesn't seem quite as deep.] * Enzo peers. * Enzo peers carefully though. [The whole thing seems pretty nasty, but Enzo still can't make out where it went through. Some of the workers are working on moving a pulley into place so they can hoist up the lumber.] * Enzo sees if it's possible for him to quietly join the work crew. [Enzo gets to join the work crew for a little while. But eventually they look at him and blink. "Hey!"] * Enzo looks up and blinks back. "Yeah?" ["What do you think you're doing?"] Just helpin' out. There's not a problem, is there? [The workers look at each other and then one of them gets brave enough to tackle this weird kid. "Um...do you know anything about fixing ships?"] Yeah, I've been doing knotwork and rigging stuff for...*thinks a bit* about three years, I guess? [The worker shakes his head. "Not the same kid. That's just standard sailing lore, not nearly what you'd need to fix a ship. You'd do more harm than good, I'm sorry."] * Enzo shrugs. "Well, okay. Just wanted to help out, she looks pretty roughed- up." ["Thanks for the offer, kid. Hey, if you're around port for a while, maybe we could train ya eventually."] Might take you up on that offer. *grins, then looks over to the ship* Does anyone know what happened to her though? I mean...she looks *really* roughed-up. I didn't think we were at war with anyone or anything like that." [The guy thinks for a moment. "Not that I can think of..." He calls up to the other on the bow. "Anything you can think of boss?" The apparent boss thinks for a moment too. "Well...the sails are probably just storm tossed. But not sure about the rest of it. Could be pirates but it looks a little big to be a cannonball..."] The crew not talking? Or...they *did* make it okay, right? [The boss shakes his head and sighs, looking over the boat. "Not sure how many were on it. Heck, the boat's lucky to have drifted up at all."] ...wow. Well...good luck, I guess. Hope whatever got her's full now, because if we started getting ships like that in....*whistles* * Enzo wonders. "I wonder where she headed, to pick up that kind of damage?" [The workers look on the ship a little silently and then one speaks up quietly. "..no idea."] Oh well. * Enzo waves to the workers. "Thanks for letting me help out some." [They'd wave back, but they're busy getting to work.] * Enzo wanders off in the vague direction of the ship, looking about for other interesting stuff.
