[You and yer mates found out went around searching for lots of info involving the Iron Maiden during the day. But now the redden sky is bidding an end to the day over the cityscape. Since everyone was already outside the tavern, it seemed like a good idea to take a breather inside it. Especially since Enzo hasn't shown up yet, so Naiya went out searching for him for a bit. Where did that kid wander off to?] [Session Start.] * Shan is in the tavern! She's wondering whether or not to order a drink. * Virgil is in the tavern too! He's not wondering weather to order a drink, he already did. * Nasira is drinking her drink. So much for not ordering. So... Virgil! Are you drunk yet? * Virgil takes a very small drink. "No?" * Nasira grins. "Good!" She pulls the drink away. "Don't get drunk yet. Shan, do you have that ring?" * Shan nods. "I do." * Virgil puts his drink down. "Mmm? A ring?" Yeah, a ring. I think the Iron Maiden's first mate owned it or somethin'. * Shan pulls out the ring. "Yes. He gave it to a dock worker." * Virgil smiles. "That's a fortunate turn of events. We might have a clue to this mystery after all." Accordingly, the worker said he knew the man, but not all that well. Yet the sailor gave him this very expensive ring which he obviously treasured, and told him to give it to anyone who came looking for him. It's quite obvious that the crew of the ship, or at least the captain's close associates, were deffinately taking part in some big venture. * Pocky-kun has joined #seekers * Nasira grins. "Sounds like it. Little black book and everything. Wonder if it's got a treasure map." She stretches. "Anyway, if Virgil needs a personal trinket to see into the past, that's our ticket to finding out what happened." * Virgil looks at his drink and shakes his head. "And I wanted a good drink too..." It's okay. I'll make sure it doesn't go to waste. But, yes. I should be able to discern something from it. * Virgil sighs. * Nasira idly finishes off her drink as she says that. * Jex has joined #seekers I'm going to need to go back to the ship before I can conduct a proper divination on it, however. Using... ale as a medium doesn't work too well. * Jex is now known as Naiya Mmm... Alright, I suppose it is my duty to finish it for you then. Shan doesn't have to be conscious or collected for your spell to work, right? Of course not. So drink away. * Nasira grins. "Right! Have at it, boss." * Shan grabs the ale and drinks. [The tavern door swings open, but only Shan really pays attention to it. In the doorway is Naiya.] * Naiya looks around, eyes open. Left, right, left, right. She's looking for someone, or something. * Shan finishes the drink, looks over and waves. "Naiyaaaaaa! Over heeeeeere!" So, you need a bowl of water or somethin'? * Nasira looks up and waves, smiling. "Hi Naiya! Shan's gettin' drunk! Come and watch the show!" ... Oi, I forgot. Can I have that ring? * Naiya settles her gaze on Shan, after a moment. "Oh, dear." She walks over, clanking. What ring? * Shan pokes Nasira. "Hey. Go gemme another, eh?" Yeah, I figured this would happen. The one we were talking about earlier. * Nasira nods at Shan. "Sure thing, boss. I need the ring to do it, though." * Shan glares at Virgil suddenly. * Naiya nods at Shan politely, then glances at Nasira. Nasira's usually not the drunk one. "Hella Shan, Nasira. Have you seen Enzo?" I hardly even know you. How DARE you be so forward with your proposal. Not since he wandered off. * Nasira blinks, then snickers, then cracks up. * Virgil chuckles. * Shan wags a finger at Virgil. "'Sides, Ima gomment official." Mmmhmmm. Of course you are. * Nasira grins at Virgil. "Yeah. And she can beat you up with her bare fists." * Naiya looks at Shan, confused. ".. I won't ask. I think I will sit down for a bit, though." * Nasira gets to her feet, snickering, and goes to the bar. * Naiya grabs a nearby seat, and sits down, just like she said! * Shan nods after Nasira. "'s right y'know." Yes, I'm not arguing. Liar. Yes, yes you are. * Shan looks around the tavern. "'S no rice. You people dunno how to eat healthy." * Nasira returns with another of whatever Virgil had and plunks it in front of Shan. Still grinning? Yes. "You should go to whoever runs this town and complain." * Naiya eyes Nasira. "Quit trying to get the poor, drunk, goverment official to start trouble." Said nicely, of course. * Shan drinks more. "Hmmm.... * Shan stands up. "Yer right! Let's go do that! Just one moment." * Nasira nods at Shan. "Don't forget your drink!" She hands it to her. * Shan drinks the ale all at once and slams the tankard down. She nods at Nasira. "C'mon, 's go." Honestly. You should get the poor, drunk, goverment official to lower the import prices. * Shan wanders towards the door. That's next on the list! * Virgil nudges Nasira. "Didn't you need the ring to get that drink?" Yup. Rings need to get drunk all the time. If they didn't, they'd never stay passed out on your finger. * Nasira whistles and walks after Shan. This'll be fun. .... that settles it. Enzo can wait, I need to stop you two from burning this place down. That's what I thought. * Virgil gets up and walks after, talking to Naiya. "I can't stop them, and you know it." * Shan staggers out the tavern and heads for whatever looks like city hall. (Shan stumbles into another bar?) ... it might be a good idea to warn the Griffon, then. (There's only one!) (She stumbles into a... library!) * Nasira keeps grinning, walking to the side and a little behind. She lets Shan stumble wherever she likes... though not into a wall. She stops Shan before she does that. (She stumbles into the men's bathroom. Same purpose as a city hall.) (That works.) * Naiya tags along, staying out of the way. She's got a lightly exasperated look on her face. [Shan stumbles about the city. Even in her drunken haze, she manages to find something that looks somewhat like it might be city hall.] * Shan heads towards it. She'll show those stuck up aristocrats. * Nasira walks after, grin not fading in the least. * Virgil walks after too. Nasira ... just keep in mind we have a mission to complete, okay? [Shan manages to find the door handle with minimal trouble.] * Shan opens the door! [Inside, she finds a very elaborate setting. White tiles adorn the floor and the walls have a faint golden trimming to them. Whether they're actual gold or not is questionable, but it's an impressive effect. There's double doors in the lobby and next to it is a mahogany desk at which sits a fairly plain woman with black hair and a tightened bodice over a puffy-sleeved dress. She seems to be writing something down.] [There seem to be dual spiral staircases leading up to a balcony-like section of a second floor.] * Shan walks up to her. "I wanna complain!" * Nasira looks back at Naiya, blinks, and then seems to realize what's going on. "Huh, she found the door." She goes about heading after Shan. * Naiya steps in after Shan, and facepalms at Shan's statement. [The woman doesn't look up from her work. Hasn't qutie noticed you.] Hey! * Shan raps her hand on the table. [The woman looks up at Shan with her brown eyes and folds her hands. She looks bored or irritated; it's hard to tell. "May I help you?"] I wanna complain! ["That's nice. Do you have an appointment?"] * Shan points at the others. "An they gonna complain wit' me too!" I dun need no appointment! Ima gomment official! * Nasira stops behind and to the right of Shan, then grins at the lady. "Yeah, she is. It's your job to listen to government officials, right?" See? [The woman pulls back and covers her mouth and nose. "What country are you from? Do all your officials reek of liquor?"] Far as I can tell, only after they've been drinking. Ummm.... I forget.... But it dun't matter! ["I'm sorry; we don't take complains from drunks with delusions of grandeur. Especially since all the officials have gone home for the night. The doors were about to be locked soon before you barged your way in."] * Naiya shakes her head, sadly. "Why me?" Well you better should do it. What kinda gomment you got where they don't listen to no complaining? [The woman stands and gives Shan a hard look. "What I will do is call the guards if you do not remove yourselves from these premises soon. You are making a scene."] Just for you, lady. You already said there's no officials here. * Naiya steps forward, and lays a hand on Shan's shoulder, gently. "Shan, they're closing. This can wait until tomorrow." The words are slow, soothing. Don't be silly. 'S not a play, 's fer real. * Nasira snickers. She can't help herself. [The woman eyes Nasira. If she's unsettled by looking at a one-eyed woman, she covers it well. "I said, get out." No ya didn't! ["Well, I'll say it now. Get out."] * Shan looks from Nasira to Naiya. "She din', right? You heard her." She did now. Oh, well now ya did. But ya didn't before! I strongly suggest you walk out. * Virgil walks out of the building. * Nasira laughs. "Okay. C'mon, Shan. Ya can complain in the morning." * Naiya gently tugs Shan away from the lady, torwards the door. "They'll be here tomorrow." Yah, I can do it at night, too. I'm talantanted. * Shan wags her finger at the lady as she's led out. "'M warning ya! Ya need to eat healthy-ier, or you'll get fatter 'n uglier. [The woman just looks at Shan like she's nuts. Or drunk. Which she is, so it's an accurate stare.] * Nasira turns to leave, pauses, and pulls out a few drachs. She hands them to the lady. "Here ya go." Hey! [The woman takes the drachs, now looking confused.] * Naiya closes the door soundly behind her, once her and Shan are out. * Nasira grins at the lady, her one eye glittering. "Buy yerself some rice. Gotta start somewhere." Cheerful Maltan wave, and she walks out, opening the door if necessary. [You're outside again!] You keep gimmim money away, not gonna have none no more. I'm sure you feel proud of yourself, Nasira. Maybe if you paid me, that wouldn't be such a problem. Healthy eating takes money, y'know. Nah, I'm not particularly proud of myself. But the lady did get something out of it. Did pay ya. Yer not in jail anymore, right? Should be workin' for me fer tenjillion years. And then some. Hey, do you need another drink? * Naiya lets go of Shan, and leans back against the wall next to the frame. "Let's... let's just get back to the ship, okay?" Mmm.... I won't argue. Les bring drink to ship. No! Bring ship to drink. Sit it next t' Virgil. He looks lonely. ... That's because he is. C'mon, Shan. * Nasira lightly grabs Shan by the upper arm and leads her to the ship. 'N we can bring that kid that likes N-sira. You know Shimzal the Vithiririrl guy. Kid nees more friends, get him t' shaddap. Hey, let's get a chicken. * Nasira blinks. "A chicken? What for?" Cuz. It'd be funny. * Nasira looks back over her shoulder and waves Virgil over with her free hand. We could put it in the chicken nest. * Shan points at the crow's nest. "Cuz people prolly feel silly sittin' in a birds nest. * Naiya walks along. She's got her book out, and is holding it in one hand, writing in it with the other. * Virgil walks over to Nasira. Maybe we should just get Shan some rest. That's the idea. Either that, or get her to drink more and pass out. * Nasira coughs into her free hand. "And I didn't think she'd actually do it." The latter will probably be easier. Oh, sure! If there's one thing that's easier than getting drunk, it's getting more drunk. So how 'bout that chicken? ... we'll get you one for your birthday. * Nasira keeps leading Shan to the ship. "We can get a chicken in the morning. I'm not up to trying to steal one. Fight through a small army for one, sure, but I don't think there's a small army guarding a chicken around here." It's my birthday? * Shan glances at Nasira. "Why didn'tcha say so?" * Nasira looks at Shan. "Because it's not your birthday." * Naiya finishes writing whatever she's writing. She flips the book closed, tucking it away. * Shan blinks. "Wish you'd make up yer mindz." It'd be nice, wouldn't it? * Shan nodsnodnods. [Everyone walks down to the ship. There's a shadowy figure on the docks that seems to be scouting it out.] ... if you're looking for a fight, Nasira, this person may be the one to pick a fight with. * Nasira grins. "Nah, I'm pretty sure I already did that." She raises her voice. "Hey!" * Enzo turns around and waves. "Hi!" * Virgil walks up to the shadowy figure. "Hey, Enzo!" Huh? * Nasira waves. "Shan got drunk!" Yeah... * Shan looks at Nasira questioningly. "We gonna fight Enzo? What, again? And she's a government official. Enzo? *squints, and looks more closely* Just so you know. Cool. Is she shiny? * Nasira nods. "Fairly. Smells like liquor, too. The secretary said so." Wow! I didn't get to get smelled by secretaries. ... you, Enzo, have an amazing propensity for getting lost, and being found. * Enzo blinks. "I'm not lost." Enzooooo. I think we gotta beat you up. Yeah. You missed your chance. And I think Naiya means she lost you. But dun worry, I make you viceory later. * Enzo looks a little crestfallen. "Awww." * Nasira looks at Shan, then Enzo. "See, it's not my idea this time." Awesome! Shan, you don't have to beat Enzo up. I can be a butterfly! * Shan blinks at Naiya. "You jus' said we do. Did. Dodid." Well, I'm taking it back. * Nasira calmly ignores this and keeps her glittering eye on Enzo. "So, didja find anything interesting?" * Naiya waves a hand in front of Shan's face. "I never said to beat Enzo up. You're just imagining things." * Enzo blinks at Nasira. "Well, that's her fault then. I didn't realize I was playing hide and seek with her." Yer indicisive. Bad fer a leader. Me? Sure. You position... I make you stablegirl. Hmm... Oh! I saw this really beat-up old ship. Enzooooooo! Naiya's yet new stablegirl. * Naiya eyes flicker with something, for a moment, and she looks sharply away. "No thanks." They said it could've gone through the Veil. There are lots of really old beat-up shi- It came back? Awesome! I always wanted one. Well....kinda. Kinda? Bet it came back without anyone on it. I know that ship! I think... Maybe it's my ship? Yeah, that's most likely. Oh. Ok. Les go claim my new ship. * Shan smiles. Is it here, in this port? It's...really REALLY beat-up. Yeah. Hmmm... * Nasira eyes Shan. "Ya can't just go takin' ships without waving a sword around. That's uncivilized. You don't got any swords." Then Virgil can be the new ship-fixer person, under your command, Viceroy Enzoooooo! Yay! * Shan smiles at Nasira. "It would be, but it's my ship. I can do what I want wit it." * Naiya lightly whaps Shan on the head. "Take your own position more seriously!" * Nasira snickers. [There's some clomping on the deck coming up behind you. A lantern shines it's light on the rest of you, belonging to Jake.] * Nasira squints her eye. "Watch where you point that thing." I am zerious! Is a important ship. It went to get a veil. I think iz gonna get married. To Virgil. 'Cause he's lonely. Wow. Aw... Poor Virgie. * Naiya snickser at that, despite herself. Ya wander off for a while, you miss a lot. * Nasira nods. "Yeah. He proposed to Shan, too, and she all but slapped him in the face." Hey! I know what'll cheer him up! Les get him a chicken! Said he was movin' too fast. [Jake looks at Shan and then the others, raising an eyebrow. "Something happen?"] * Nasira grins at Jake. "We're pretty sure they went through the Veil. Place of mists and ghosts, or something." * Shan nodnods. "We need a chicken." Oh, and Shan got drunk. Again. Come on, I was just *getting* to that part! Yeah, Nasira told me. Again. Thanks, Enzo. * Naiya rolls her eyes. Er...no problem. Do you have an apple? Nope. Should I? Just wondering. [Jake nods and sighs. "I feared as much." He looks at Virgil. "Anything else?"] I know! * Shan points at Jake. "You can be admiral of Enzo's navy." Yes. Shan was able to obtain a personal ring held by the first offic-. Officer. First mate. They're called first mates. 'R.... Maybe admirer of Enzo's navel. [Jake looks at Shan and looks surprised for a second and then just grins. "Sorry, my lady. But I'm happy where I stand with me own ship." Mate. Quite. Unfortunately, she got drunk before giving it up. * Enzo tugs up his shirt a little and studies his navel. "I dunno, it doesn't look that cool." By Fiona... [Jake tips the hat just the same and then looks from Virgil to Shan. "Is that so? Ya got a ring?"] * Nasira snickers. She can't help it. (Again!) Yeah. Stop askin' me that! 'M too young! ... right. * Enzo tilts his head at Shan curiously. "How young are you?" [Jake sighs and rubs his head. "Well then. This is a problem."] You're tellin' me. Ya. If ya don't get admirin' Enzo's navel, ya might be executioned for treason. Nice question, Enzo. You're gonna be really good with the girls once you decide you're interested in them beyond idle curiosity. And you might wanna wait 'till morning, Jake. Unless you've got more liquor on you. * Naiya raises an eyebrow at Jake. "She seems to like you. She offered you admiralship. Maybe you should ask." I figure another couple drinks should do it. * Enzo blinks at Nasira. "Huh?" .... or we could go back to the bar to finish the job. * Nasira nods at Enzo. "Exactly." Uh, okay. Are you good with girls? [Jake rubs his head. "Nah, I guess she'll just sleep it off. Wanted to go a little earlier but I guess it can't be helped."] N-sira's got an eye fer girls. * Shan points at Nasira's eye. "This one." * Nasira nods. "Yup. I use it for boys, too. Gotta use it for everything." It gets a lot of attention. Ohh. So I gotta get rid of an eye? * Nasira grins. "Nah. 'Sides, getting rid of an eye's pretty painful." ...maybe I can just wear the eyepatch. Are you actually considering what she's saying? [Jake walks towards the ship. "Anyhow, we'll be ready to sail in the morning. Wanted to go earlier, but I guess we're stuck." he grumbles at that and boards the ship.] * Enzo looks around himself and tugs a small piece of torn bedding out of his belt, then ties it around his head. "Yarr!" * Nasira laughs. Maybe we can go across the ocean by land 'n save time. ... Tomorrow, Shan. C'mon, you've gotta sleep so you can wake up. Idiots, all idiots. * Virgil boards the ship and heads to his 'cabin'. Just invent a boat with legs, and you'll be set. You should take that idea back to your own country, and stun the world. * Enzo undoes the bedding and eyes it curiously. "Wait, where'd I get this from?" * Nasira leads Shan to her quarters. And she calls back, cheerfully, "Yeah, and my parents said I'd never amount to anything. Now look at me!" * Naiya grins at Shan, amusedly, then boards herself. * Enzo shrugs and puts it back in his belt. Yah! Work hard 'n you can also be a two-sword killer 'n criminal. 'N get a chicken maybe too. Maybe. Lights out for you. * Nasira more or less shoves Shan into her quarters, closes the door, and goes off to her own. [The next morning. Everyone wakes up to the ship in motion. Jake wanted to get an early start and you're heading off towards the Veil. Those of you who made it, though, notice a general sense of unease about the ship. No one's happy to be there. In fact, it might just be your imagination, but it seems like the crew's smaller than it once was.] * Nasira is awake and on the deck, just having a look around. She hasn't started practice just yet. * Enzo frowns as he rigs and knots and stuff. * Shan comes out of her room, rubbing her head. She blinks and goes up to Jake. "Pardon me for asking, but did the crew shrink overnight?" Oh, and for fashion statements, she's wearing a green buttoned shirt and matching slacks, and one of those funny hats. * Naiya is awake. Still awake, in fact. She look kinda tired. * Nasira spots Enzo and calls over to him, "Hey, Enzo! Somethin' wrong?" * Naiya is out of her armor, in her plainer brown-and-grey zaxon robes. * Enzo finishes up and comes down. "I think the crew's...well, not here. A bunch of them. 'S weird." I'd imagine... part of the crew lost faith. * Nasira is out of her armor 'cause she doesn't have armor! "Oh, yeah." [Jake's lips are thin as he looks on the horizon. "Not everyone's as confident about this journey as they should be..." You're sayin' that like they ever *had* faith. Ohh.... Everyone has faith in something. That much I've learned. Hmmm.... Well, I suppose that's to be expected. Do we have enough of a crew to continue? I'd guess so, else we'd not already be on our way. Whatever they had faith in... they've lost it. [Jake looks around and brings his voice to a commanding bellow. "Alright, you sea dogs, listen up. I want every man looking out when we reach our destination. No one, I mean no one, is slacking at their post. I'll keelhaul you two at a time if I catch ya. Got that?"] I wonder about that. * Enzo winces. "Yessir." * Naiya pulls out her spyglass, yawns, and unfurls it, holding it loosely in one hand. * Nasira stretches, idly, and goes back to walking. Aye aye, captain. [Naiya sees mist! And lots of it. It seems like it stretches on for several knots in both directions. The atmosphere is grey and bleak and the sky is almost to a deep black.] * Enzo gets back on the ropes. * Shan looks out towards the pointy end of the ship... Oh! The stern. That's what those sailors said it was. * Shan does that to see whatever she can in this fog. * Naiya stays out on deck. The sea air is better for staying awake in, and they probably need an extra eye more than anything else. * Naiya keeps an eye out, too. * Enzo does his work like a good Enzo. [It's still a bit before the ship is actually encased in the mist. But it's certainly difficult to see around it. Even the people without spyglasses are starting to see it now, wafting around in the morning air and wisps of mist waving towards ships as if to beckon them.] So... this is the Veil. [Jake nods, steering the ship.] I wonder why they say there are ghosts here? I imagine we'll find out. It sure looks like it. Only without the ghosts and pirates I expected. * Shan fans herself with her feather fan. "There's no such thing as ghosts." * Nasira grins at Shan. "Sure there isn't." Give 'em some time, maybe they're just late risers. But there must be something here for them to call them ghosts. If they're not ghosts, what are they? Maybe it's just the mist. I mean, mist does funny stuff. Precisely. I think we ought to have avoided this place entirely. Why? Because... the... the reefs. They're too dangerous. * Enzo gives Shan a weird look, then goes back to work to avoid getting his keel hauled. <.< * Virgil walks out of his 'room'. "G'morning." He looks around. "Don't tell me. Most of the crew turned chicken?" * Enzo answers without looking away. "Some." * Naiya salutes at Virgil. "They lost faith." * Shan heads towards the cabin. "I-I think I had better lie down. I don't feel particularly well right now." * Shan vanishes behind the door! Perfect. Hey, Sh-... Geeze, you want something so you can help find a missing ship and she always runs away... * Naiya watches Shan go, with an amused expression on her face. "I wonder if a chicken will help with her hangover?" * Nasira rolls her eye, then walks over and bangs on Shan's door. "Hey! Give Virgil the ring before you throw up!" * Shan doesn't answer! * Nasira sighs and bangs harder. "Shan! It's just mist! And now that I said that, we'll probably be attacked, but come on." * Shan doesn't answer some more! * Nasira tries opening the door. [While Nasira's banging on the door, Virgil just *barely* makes out the outline of a ship in the mist. The Gryphon is approaching fast.] Captain! Ship off the bow and aproaching quickly. Hey... Nasira, how'd you know? ... I'd wager that she's picked enough fights to smell one coming. * Naiya looks that way, too! [The captain yells out incredulously. "What?" He fumbles for a spyglass and puts it up to his eye.] Well, it'd make sense, wouldn't it? If there isn't ghosts, there's pirates. Or maybe piratey ghosts. ["Damn it all, we're gonna hit! Hard to starboard!"] Ghosty pirates! ...eeep. * Enzo hangs on. * Virgil braces for impact! * Naiya grabs a nearby rope, and hangs on tight. * RDMgryphon has quit IRC (Quit: sleep get ) * Nasira braces! [The ship swings hard to the starboard side (right for you landlubbers). The ship *creaks* as it turns and the mast points at almost a 60 degree angle to the water as it turns through the waves. It scuttles the edge of the mist and just barely misses a collision. The ship is a relatively small pinnace, but a collision would still be nasty. (con)] [Especially since boarding spikes adorn around the edge just below the railing to the sides of the main deck. It is also prepared for battle because the cannon ports are wide-open, with harpoon guns prepared to fire. The ship is painted a red and black color, but the flag it's waving isn't any pirate colors; they're Zaxon.] [The turning of the ship causes everyone to be swept off their feet and hit the deck rather hard. Enzo manages to keep his place on the rigging and Shan in her cabin steadies her ground, but she sure can feel as the ship moves. Just barely in the mist, you can make out a few figures standing near the bow.] * Enzo keeps his hold and peers at the people. * Virgil hits the deck all right. "Did we avoid it?" Yeah... * Naiya gets to her feet, after she's sure the initial impact has passed. * Virgil gets back to his feet slowly, brushing his clothing off. "That's good at least." What's going on...? A -Zaxon- ship? Here? * Nasira lands gracelessly, then climbs to her feet and looks around. "What're you gonna do, tell them to stop?" She runs to get a better look at those near the bow. What the heck?! * Shan does nothing anyone can see. They stole a Zaxon flag! Zaxon would never fall to piracy, Fiona would never permit it! [The mist wafts away for a moment and the figures on the bow become fully visible. One seems to be in the vestments of the Zaxon priesthood and looks somewhat glum, with short-cropped blond hair. He's carrying a wooden staff and standing to the left of the apparent captain. To the right is a well-tanned muscular individual with relatively sparse clothing, almost entirely in rags with black hair. (con)] [The apparent captain is a female with dark black hair tied to one side hanging down in the front. Her hat is wide-brimmed and circular with a peacock feather sticking out of it and her vestments look rather expensive in appearance. She has her hands on her hips as she looks head-on towards the Gryphon, then she points her finger directly at the ship, shouting "I've got you now, Drake Finning!"] [She turns to her subordinates. "Men! Prepare to board!"] [Session End.]
